Peritus Roma-Toscana (21 days & 20 nights):

Roma: You will feel, smell, taste, touch, and traverse on this Journey all of those names, places, and things with which you already may be familiar from the Roman Forum and Coliseum to the Vatican and Sistine Chapel, from Piazza Navona to Pasta all’Amatriciana, and from gelato to the evening passeggiata. The beginner and veteran visitor alike will understand Rome’s real significance for human civilization and will be capable of communicating that forever after to others.

We’ll visit three of Rome’s most famous suburban towns, also. Castel Gandolfo overlooking Lake Alban to the east and the Mediterranean Sea to the west will enthrall you with its Papal Palace and Gardens. Roman Emperor Hadrian’s Villa and later Popes’ Villa d’Este will enchant you with incredible fountains and landscaped getaways in Tivoli. Ostia Antica will transport you back in time to ancient Rome’s imperial seaport.

As if this were not enough, imagine visiting the Vatican Museums and their stunning galleries without thousands of other visitors during the heat of the day. Imagine beholding the Rooms of Raffaello alone after dark as if these Popes’ private offices were yours. Imagine seeing Michelangelo’s masterpiece as he communicates with just you by yourself in a Sistine Chapel where you can hear a pin drop. Imagine enjoying all of this even more intimately than any VIP or head of state. Now, stop imagining it. Choose this Journey to own it.

Toscana: Historians still debate precisely where the Renaissance began: Venice, Perugia, Florence, and even Amsterdam. You will discover through this Journey that it was ultimately Florence even though it would soon if not simultaneously be eclipsed by the Papal Renaissance in Rome. The term Renaissance in French or Rinascimento in Italian means “rebirth” in English and refers to the first reboot of human civilization after an entire millennium following the collapse of the Roman Empire in the fifth century CE. You will experience first-hand on this Journey through Italy’s most famous region of Tuscany the Italian Renaissance masters themselves and the landscape and environment in which and which they developed: idyllic Tuscan vineyards and olive groves, authentic Italian leather goods and marble quarries, and of course the art and architecture that rightly renders Florence still stunning to this day.
